Bioscience brilliance lives here – Scripps, Max Planck, and much more

Palm Beach North has become a thriving hub for cutting-edge bioscience research and development. Exciting research by Scripps, Max Planck, FAU and other non-profit research facilities in NPB is wide open to enterprising for-profit firms, offering lucrative new opportunities: licensing, growth and expansion.

The 30-acre Scripps Research Institute in Jupiter has anchored the area’s growing biotech community since 2009 and attracted other respected research, biotech, and pharmaceutical companies to the area. Nearby, Max Planck, a world-renowned scientific research organization and the first research institute of its kind in North America, has also drawn respected enterprises within biotech and scientific research industries to the area.

Palm Beach County is also home to five universities, including Florida Atlantic University (FAU), which is a Carnegie Foundation for the Advancement of Teaching “High Research Activity” institution. FAU’s Charles E. Schmidt College of Medicine capitalizes on the areas existing strengths in basic, applied and translational biomedical research by addressing pressing health challenges including cardiovascular disease and stroke, cancer, Parkinson’s disease, macular degeneration, autoimmune diseases, and HIV/AIDS.

Palm Beach State College also supports the industry with a 90,000 square-foot Bioscience Technology Complex on its Palm Beach Gardens campus.

The major research institutes collaborate and partner with a community of over 100 innovative companies in fields including medical devices, pharmaceuticals, therapeutics, biotechnology, and medical IT.

Palm Beach County’s 14 hospitals and numerous medical facilities incorporate the latest scientific findings and technology developed locally and around the world, and collaborate with the research institutions regarding best practices, completing the “bench-to-bed” cycle.

Our thriving bioscience, R&D and business growth is poised for even greater expansion in years ahead with a regional 681-acre mixed use bioscience/R&D economic cluster projected to drive even more high-paying jobs and diversification.
